Fairtrade coffee has grown strongly in the UK market from niche product to one that now competes in the mainstream market.
Fairtrade ensures a better deal for producers in developing countries though the Fairtrade standards set by Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO). These standards cover social, economic and environmental criteria, and include the Fairtrade Premium, an additional sum producer organisations receive to invest in their business and community development projects.
